When does the 2024 Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon take place?

The 2024 Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon will take place on Sunday 6 October.

How much does it cost to enter?

Marathon

To enter the Marathon this costs between £46 – £77 depending when you register. For SAL/UK affiliated entry costs between £44 – £75 depending when you register.

Relay Race Team

To enter a Relay Race team (five runners) this will cost between £145  – £200  depending on when you register.

To enter a Relay Race team (two runners) this will cost between £70  – £100  depending on when you register.

How old must I be to enter the event?

Marathon

Runners in the Marathon must be at least 18 years of age on the day of the race.

Relay Race

Runners in the Relay Race must be at least 15 years of age on the day of the race.

Marathon Mile

Runners in the Marathon Mile must be in Year 2 or above (6+) on the day of the race.

I am now unable to run - what are my options?

All entry fees are non-refundable and registrations are non-transferable and the organisers retain the right to refuse entry to anyone declaring false information on their entry form, not making the required payment, or otherwise failing to meet the stated entry requirements.

If you are unable to run due to genuine medical or injury reasons you may be able to defer your entry to the following year only. Please contact us at [email protected] to discuss.

 

How many people make up a relay race team?

There are two different relay categories: Team of Five and Team of Two.

Relay sections will be of differing lengths and difficulties. It is the responsibility of Relay Team Captains to allocate their team to the sections of the race.

Are relay race runners able to run more than one relay race leg?

We can allow relay race runners to run more than one leg, but they must be aged 17+ and in the spirit of the competition your team will not be eligible for receiving any prizes.

Where and when do I collect my race pack/ running number?

Please note that we do not post race packs to runners, runners must collect their race packs from Registration, which is in the Marathon Village. Registration is open at the following times:

Thursday 3 October – 10:00-16:00
Friday 4 October – 10:00-16:00
Saturday 5 October – 10:00-16:00 (extended hours for Overseas Competitors only until 18:00)

What do I need to bring to registration?

We kindly ask you bring valid ID with your photograph (eg valid passport or driving licence with photograph) to collect your Race Pack.

Can someone else collect my race pack for me?

Marathon

We can allow someone to collect your number for you. We kindly ask you contact us on [email protected] to confirm this in writing one week prior to the collection.

Relay Race

We appreciate some industries may wish to collect a number of packs in one go. If this is the case please email us the list of teams to [email protected] to confirm this in writing one week prior to the collection so we can prepare this in advance.

Marathon Mile

We appreciate some schools/charities may wish to collect a number of packs in one go. If this is the case please email us a full list of pupils to [email protected] to confirm this in writing one week prior to the collection so we can prepare this in advance. Please also notify all parents/ pupils that you are collecting their pack to avoid duplicate packs being organised. Please note we will no issue any packs unless the runner has stated their school/ organisation / charity when registering.

What do I need to do on race day?

We strongly request all runners of the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon read their Essential Race Information pack which will be emailed to all runners a few weeks before race day. These instructions contain all the information runners must know in order to have an enjoyable Race Day.

Is there a warm up for each race category?

Marathon

There is no warm up for the Marathon.

Relay Race

There is a short 5 minute warm up session for relay race runners at Liberation Square (Opposite the Weighbridge Place) This will start at 09:10.

We encourage all relay runners to attend and warm up before the race!

Marathon Mile

Are there toilets changing facilities, and showers available?

Marathon

There will be changing facilities within the Marathon Village that are open from 08:00 and shower facilities at St Helier Marina. The shower facilities will be open between 10:00 to 15:00. You will find them a short walking distance from the finish line. There will be a male and female changing room and plenty of toilets situated at the Marathon Village, along with  some available on the course.

Relay Race

There will be changing facilities within the Marathon Village that are open from 08:00 and shower facilities at St Helier Marina. The shower facilities will be open between 10:00 to 15:00. You will find them a short walking distance from the finish line.

Relay changeover over 1 / Waterworks Valley No changing facilities

Relay changeover over 2 / St.Ouens No changing facilities

Relay changeover over 3 and 4 / Les Quennevais Changing facilities available within Les Quennevais Sports Centre.

Marathon

Relay Race

There will be twelve water stations at regular intervals along the course. Please refer to our course fuelling guide. There will be water at the finish for those running the final leg. Unfortunately energy drinks are not provided for relay runners. You may see them on the course but these are for runners in the full marathon.

The following will be available at each change over point:

  1. Water supplies
  2. Catering – Please note that if you would like to purchase any food or drink, there will be caterers at Relay Changeover Point 4. This is also near to Relay Changeover Point 3.
  3. Marquee for bag drop/collection and for shelter
  4. Toilets
  5. PA system with BBC Radio Jersey coverage
  6. A team of lovely helpful marshals

Where can I park?

Marathon

All town car parks will be available as normal. It is anticipated that traffic will be busy on the morning of the race, so please leave sufficient time to get into town, parked and to the start of the race.

Relay Race

There are no facilities for parking at the Relay Race change over points. With the large number of runners participating in the event, we need to significantly reduce the number of vehicles on the route. Relay Race runners MUST use the FREE coach transportation to/from their relay station as parking will not be permitted. 

  • Relay Changeover 1: No Parking Available. DO NOT drive to the Relay Station as the Road is Closed!
  • Relay Changeover 2: No Parking Available.  DO NOT drive to the Relay Station.Relay Race runners MUST use the FREE coach transportation to/from this relay station
  • Relay Changeover 3 + 4 – Les Quennevais Sports Centre public parking – Please note parking is extremely limited in this car park.

Where does the race number go?

Marathon

You must pin your race number on the front of your race top. Safety pins will be available for collection when you pick up your race pack at Registration.

Relay Race

You must pin your race number on the front and back of your race top. Safety pins will be available for collection when you pick up your race pack at Registration.

Marathon Mile

Are you allowed to alter your race bib?

It is against the rules of the race to amend your race bibs in anyway, if you do amend your race bibs runners may face disqualification. This year race bibs will be a smaller size and measure 21cm width X 14.5cm height, please ensure your race outfits will allow your race bib to fit comfortably on your front of your race top.

How can I tell who is a marathon runner or a relay race runner?

Marathon runners have numbers with a white background. Relay Race Runners have numbers with a red background and “Relay Race” written above the number.

Which side of the road do I need to run on?

Runners MUST stay on the left hand side of the road unless directed otherwise by the Police or by a Race Official. Your safety is paramount and failure to comply with this rule will not only put yourself and others at risk but will also potentially lead to your disqualification from the race as per Rule 215 of the UKAA.

What do I do if I need to drop out of the race on the day?

If you have to drop out of the race for any reason please contact the nearest Race Official marshal. If you need medical assistance they will arrange this. It is vital that you let us know that you will not be completing the course and that you are fine.

How are times recorded?

Times will be recorded in two ways – Gun Time and Chip Time.

The Gun Time is the time from the sound of the starter’s signal to the time when the runner crosses the finish line. Also known as the Official Time.

The Chip Time is the time from when the runner crosses the starting mats at the start line, to the time when the runner crosses the finishing mats.

These two times will vary. You will also have your split times recorded when you pass the timing mats at each of the relay stations around the course.

Can I run with my headphones/earphones in?

No headphones/earphones are allowed on the course, except Bone Conductor Headphones as these do not obstruct the runners ability to hear instructions in anyway. This is for your safety, as the race is not on entirely closed roads. If you are listening to music you may not hear traffic or the instructions of the Police and Race Officials. This is clearly stated in the Official Race Rules and you may face disqualification if you do wear such equipment, as this is not covered in the event insurance policy. Police and marshals are instructed to remind you to remove any headphones, so please respect their actions. Any reported mistreatment of marshals from runners will likely lead to disqualification. This is as per our UKA Race License and Insurance.

Are bikes/buggies allowed to follow/ come with me?

Runners are not permitted to bring or to use on the course any transport (including but not limited to roller skates, cycles, or baby joggers). This is for runners own safety, as per our UKA Race License and Insurance.

Runners are not permitted to gain an unfair advantage where any personnel are supporting or assisting them from a non-static point, i.e supporters may not run or cycle alongside competitors.

Runners must obtain written permission from an official should they wish to bring or use any apparatus, item or equipment on the course.

Are dogs/pets allowed on the race course?

Runners are not permitted to bring pets onto the race course at any time. This is for runners own safety, as per our UKA Race License and Insurance.

Is there a cut off time for each category?

There is an official six hour time limit for the Marathon and Relay Race. Before and after this period, the course will not be policed or marshalled. Runners who are on the course before or after the official six hour period do so at their own risk. Times will not be recorded for runners who complete the Marathon or Relay Race after the official six hour time limit.

We expect all Marathon Mile runners to be through the finish within one hour.

Participants must retire from the race if requested to do so by an official and must comply with all decisions of and directions given by an official.

Who qualifies for the Fastest Jersey Runner Marathon race category?

A runner may qualify for the Fastest Jersey Runner race category if they have been:

  1. Born on the Island of Jersey. Note, a competitor may be considered to have been born on the island of Jersey if their mother was normally resident on the island immediately prior to the birth and returned to the island soon after.
  2. Resident on the Island for a period of twelve consecutive months prior to the date of the Marathon.
