The Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon is committed towards delivering a sustainable mass participation events by eliminating out as much single use plastic as possible.
A range of innovative initiatives have been implemented at the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon which aims to reduce the events environmental impact and set the standard for Jersey mass participation events.
These include:
- Competitor finisher t-shirts are no longer individually wrapped in individual plastic bags, as requested by the event organisers.
- Competitor t-shirts are now made from fully recycled materials.
- Competitors medals are no longer individually wrapped in individual plastic bags, as requested by the event organisers.
- The event introduced a Trainer Drop-off scheme in 2024, where runners donate pre-loved trainers that are given to local Jersey charities, The Shelter Trust and Acorn to resell in their shops to raise money for their well-deserved causes.
- New to 2025 is a Jumper Drop-off scheme. Runners often wear an old jumper or jacket to stay warm while waiting for the start of the race. Similar to the trainer scheme, runners can now donate these items of clothing to the The Shelter Trust and Acorn in designated ‘drop’ areas.
- Organisers would like to kindly request all competitors and spectators dispose of their used plastics within the relevant recycling bins provided at the event, which are clearly labelled.
- By partnering with Jersey Water, who provide water units to the relay station, the event no longer offers plastic water bottles at any of our relay stations, which has reduced +2,000 water bottles.
- Organisers have banned any plastic straws and balloons from the event.
- Organisers are committed to correctly recycling outdated plastic banners and branding.
- All race instructions and registration materials are digital and not printed.
